I have the pleasure of inviting you on behalf of the Staines Foundation to the Memorial service of flight PI London – Brussels, which crashed in the meadows of Staines on 18 June, 1972.
As in previous years a Prayer Service will be held at 10:00 am at the memorial site (Water Drive – Staines). A walk, a cab or friends will bring us to the church of Saint Mary’s, Church Street, in Staines, where at 11:00 am a memorial service will be held. The service will be presided by the new Bishop of Kensington and followed by an informal reception. This will give everyone the opportunity to meet the relatives and friends of the victims of this terrible accident.
Afterwards there should be ample opportunity to have lunch together in a restaurant in Staines.
We don’t organise common transportation, recommended routes are listed below:
- if you fly to Heathrow the best way is to take cab it takes about 15’ but will cost about 15 £;
- if you come by car via the Motorway M25 should head for junction 13, and take the A 330 to Staines;
- if you come by Eurostar which goes in to St Pancras railway station where you take the Metro by Piccadilly Line to Hatton Cross, followed by the 441 or 223 bus to Staines. Another option is to take the Northern Line to Waterloo and then a train to Staines from Platform 17 to 21. First route takes about 90 minutes, the second a bit less.
Personally I am unfortunately not in the possibility to assist the memorial service this year, but I do hope some of our Senators or members will be able to attend and represent JCI Belgium at the commemoration of this tragic accident and share our thoughts and feelings with the family and friends of the other victims. Mr. John O’Hara, Mayor of the Spelthorne community is the local organiser and my contact person.
If you intend to go, could you please notify this to my e-mail address (rudy.dupont@pandora.be) so that can inform my friends who is coming.
